Insanity Mode — Unique Twist

Insanity Mode introduces a mechanic not found in the original board game: Insane players are innocent, but they are secretly shown a different location word. Because they confidently answer questions about their wrong location, they naturally sound suspicious, creating confusion that shields the real spy.

In the Spy is Insane setting, even the spy is shown a wrong location word instead of a spy card. The spy does not know they are the spy and must figure out mid-game that their answers don't align with the group. Read the full guide on the Insanity Mode page.

How to Play Spyfall

One or more players are secretly assigned as spies. All other players (the innocents) are shown a secret location such as a beach, hospital, or space station. Players take turns asking each other questions about the location without revealing it directly. The spy must listen and blend in to figure out the location before being exposed. Innocents must spot the spy by identifying who gives suspicious or vague answers. Read the complete rules guide for setup, questioning strategy, voting, and win conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spyfall?

Spyfall is a social deduction party game where one player is the spy and must figure out a secret location that all other players know. The spy blends in by asking and answering questions while the innocents try to identify and vote out the spy.

How many players can play Spyfall?

Spyfall supports 3 to 10 players. Online mode connects players from different devices. Local pass-and-play supports any group size sharing one device.

Can I play Spyfall on one phone?

Yes. Local pass-and-play mode lets your whole group share a single device. Each player privately taps to see their role and passes the phone before the next player looks.

Is Spyfall free?

Completely free. Open thespyfall.com in any browser and start playing instantly. No account, no download, no payment required.

Can I play Spyfall online with friends on different phones?

Yes. The host creates an online room and shares the 4-letter code. Friends enter the code on their own device and join the room in seconds — works across phones, tablets, and computers.

What is Insanity Mode?

A unique twist where one or more innocent players are secretly given a wrong location. They believe their location is real, creating genuine confusion that makes everyone look suspicious and the spy much harder to identify.

How do you win at Spyfall?

Innocents win by voting out all spies before time runs out. The spy wins by surviving until the timer ends, by having spies outnumber the remaining innocents, or by correctly guessing the secret location.
